When I think of healing, what come to my mind is not only healing our physical body, but also our spiritual and emotional body. It is not just about healing each individual, but also our relationships, our environment and our society.

I have become more and more convinced that connecting with nature is one of the essential elements to heal ourselves to live joyfully, healthily, and fully at every moment. I hear this message when I was on spiritual communions with Chinese, Tibetan, Indian, Brazilian, Peruvian, Native American, African, Hawaiian and Mayan shamans, healers, and Kahunas. I hear this message when I am hugging a tree, walking in the woods, or like this morning from a purple flower swaying blissfully in the ocean breeze. I hear this message when I am healing myself from past wounds and having trust, faith, peace, balance and more joy in my life. I hear this message when people get healed with our natural products and get off their medications and our products. I hear this message even when I am doing scientific research, totally amazed at the wondrous healing products nature has prepared for us.

As health professional dedicated to healing, I would love to hear from you and share some of the natural healing remedies and modalities, especially herbal remedies. Please feel free to ask me questions. I will try my best to answer them.

Best to your life,

Rulin Xiu

___________________________________

Roundtable Discussion for November 16, 2006

Herbal King, Simiao Sun

If you mention herbal king in China, Chinese people will know that you are referring to Simiao Sun. Simiao Sun had a profound influence on me long before and deeper than I realized it. I have his book at my bed side, reading and consulting it and obtaining inspiration from it often. As much as I treasure Herbal King’s wisdom and knowledge, what touches me the most is his spirit.

Since I was a child, I loved to be in wilderness, climbing mountains, and picking herbs. My favorite thing to do is to explore the mountain range area in my province, Qinling mountain range. This is the place where Sixiao Sun have lived and picked herbs. There is a well known saying in my hometown:” There is no grass in Qinling, everything is a treasure.” I am not sure how special Qinling is for growing herbs compared to other places in the world, but there is one thing I know for sure. Because of Simiao Sun and many other herbalists’ contribution, the herbs in Qinling are much better understood and utilized than that in other places.

In my explorations in Qinling, I encountered many Herbal King Temples dedicated to Simiao Sun’s memory; all claiming Herbal King Simiao Sun had picked herbs and made medicine at that specific location. It is obvious that local people are proud of the fact that Simiao Sun had picked herbs and made medicine on their land. The temples were built to show their pride and gratitude to this master. I also saw people of all sorts burning incense and praying in the temples. People here believe that this can help them heal faster and better and provide good health, peace, and prosperity to their families. It is obvious that Simiao Sun’s spirit is still very much alive here. In fact, it is still healing people and adding magic to the place just as when he was alive more than thirteen hundred years ago.

Sixiao Sun was born more than 1400 years ago to a farmer’s family. As a little child, he was weak and tended to be ill often. Because of this, he got chances to learn herbal medicine since childhood. Before he reached forty years old, he was already a well-known doctor having created many magical healings all over China. Emperor Shimin Li, who founded China’s most prosperous dynasty was informed of his ability and offered him high position and good fortune to serve the imperial court quite a few times. Simiao Sun declined all the offers. He preferred being in nature, communing with Dao masters in mountains, and healing people. He led a peaceful life healing people until he died at age 101 years old.

Simiao Sun wrote a series of books called “Remedies worth of thousands of pounds of gold”. For Sixiao Su, the satisfaction of saving a person’s life or healing someone is worth more than owning thousands of pounds of gold. In his book, he shared freely the wisdom, formulas, and secrets of healing and longevity that are worth thousands of pounds of gold. I especially like what he said:

“A person’s life is of ultimate importance. It is worth more than thousands of pounds of gold. Often one formula can save a person’s life. The virtue and satisfaction of the healing is more than anything existed.”

It has been my humble ambition to spread the wisdom and healing power of Si Miaosun and many other herbalists of last ten thousand years.

Rulin Xiu
___________________________________

Roundtable Discussion for November 8th, 2006

Acanthopanax obovatus, a central nervous system strengthener

Acanthopanax obovatus is an herb in the ginseng family growing in Qinling mountain range near my home town in China. Traditionally this herb is used for improving sleep and memory, nourishing and promoting vital energy, digestive system, and joint health.

As ginseng, acanthopanax obovatus has antioxidant effects. It can promote immunity and protect heart. However, its real strength lies in its ability to strengthen central nervous system and promote better memory and sleep.

Scientific research reveals that acanthopanax obovatus has strong calming effect on central nervous system. For example, research finds that it can increase the number of mice falling to sleep by 60%, shorten the time of mice getting to sleep, and prolong mice’s uninterrupted sleep time. Human clinical studies indicate that after taking this herb for three weeks, people’s memory, focus, and sleep are greatly improved. It can also enhance thyroid functions and help relieve menopause and chronic low blood pressure.

Rulin Xiu
___________________________________

Roundtable Discussion for November 7th, 2006

Use Herbs to Improve Liver Health

Healthy liver is essential for a healthy life. To promote liver health, you can use herbs to detoxify and nourish liver.

Many common weeds which you can see in your backyard may be just what you need for detoxify and protect your liver. Artemisia capillaries can detoxify and nourish your liver and help dissolve gallstones. Lysimachia christinae is very effective for eliminating gallstones and other toxins in liver. It also has anti-hepatitis B effect.

Many herbs can help nourish liver. They can enhance liver function, increase liver cell reproduction, improve liver’s ability to release toxins and protect liver from harmful elements such as drugs and other toxins. These herbs include polygonum cuspidatum, astragalus, goji berry, ginseng, garlic, Schisandra berry, Dangquai, ganoderma lucidum, etc.

You should also be careful with using herbs. A lot of herbs can do damage to your body. Choosing the right herbal remedies for your condition is very important.

___________________________________

Roundtable Discussion for November 6, 2006

Chinese Herbs that Can Brighten Your Eye Sight

According to the Chinese name of cassia obtusifolia seed, it is the seed that can brighten your eye sight.
